Raid Owl is back -- with an in-depth overview of the ROSE Data server. Now that's a great way to start healing all the April Fools Day trauma, right? 😎

please allow us to install Linux on it. RouterOS is a nice piece of software - for network devices. Storage becomes waaaay more complex, and RouterOS is going to be a very limiting factor with a device like that. Even with support for Docker.

support already has enough of their own issues to deal with, and now you want them to troubleshoot whatever inevitably broken Linux setups users will throw on the devices?

developers already have enough of their own bugs to fix in their networking devices and now you want them to endlessly implement new storage features? I can’t see how that leads to better versions of either their networking or their storage devices. I think they’re losing focus with this product. Specialization is a good thing.

I believe the development of rose-storage is handled by a separate team. If MikroTik can afford that — let them go for it. Selling a 'server where the user can install anything they want' versus a 'device running a specialized system' are two completely different business models.
Why don’t we also ask them to officially support installing OpenWRT on their hardware? (Some devices already allow that anyway.)
Let them just manufacture the hardware, and we’ll set up whatever software we want on it.
(Dear MikroTik, please don’t take that as a business idea, for the love of God :)
